Diesel Truck/Fire Pump Technician/Mechanic

About the job:

Maintains diesel equipment operation by completing inspections and preventive maintenance requirements; correcting vehicle deficiencies; making adjustments and alignments; files necessary paperwork/ work orders. Is familiar and confident operating/ diagnosing and correcting deficiencies with working fire pumps and associated equipment on fire apparatus.

 

Duties:

  • Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts and electrical system diagnoses.

  • Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades; controlling corrosion; completing winterization procedures. Annual fire service pump tests and records.

  • Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major fire apparatus assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as power and drive trains, air conditioning, fuel, emissions, brakes, steering, hydraulics, generators, fire pumps and electrical systems; completes machine shop operations; making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, transmissions, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units.

  • Verifies vehicle performance by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems.

  • Maintains vehicle appearance by cleaning, washing, and painting.

  • Maintains vehicle records by annotating services and repairs.

  • Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.

  • Contains costs by exercising good time management; evaluating service and parts options.

  • Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.

  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications.

  • Enhances maintenance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

  • Will be provided a cell phone and service vehicle. The Service Technician will be required to provide 24/7 in-station or on-scene mechanical service to customers as needed.

Multiplexed Electrical System knowledge is strongly desired. Each applicant will be compensated based on experience, skills, tools and aptitude.

We are proud of our business and the customers we serve. Our territory covers nine counties in western NY: Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Allegany, Erie, Wyoming, Livingston, Niagara, Orleans and Genesee.


We are currently seeking a motivated and sharp individual that is looking for a long-term career to join our sales staff in our Western New York Sales territory. The majority of your time will be spent prospecting and cold calling local Fire Departments/ Fire Companies to develop new accounts as well as working with current customers.
Two to four years of apparatus sales experience is preferred. However, we encourage recent college grads seeking an entry level sales position to apply. A relationship to the fire service (volunteer or paid firefighter or EMS providers) is highly desired.

Training:
Backed by Crimson Fire, and Spartan Motors, Fire Equipment Sales & Service, Inc. will provide all the tools necessary to put you on a proven road map for success.

  • Training includes working with our sales manager as well as manufacturer-certified trainers prior to going into field.

  • A structured training program along with ongoing annual training and product development meetings will be required.

  • Quarterly sales meetings to reward outstanding performances and introduce the latest in technology products and software.

Although we can offer a competitive base salary and auto allowance, this is a commission driven position with no limits on how much you can earn. Your overall income will reflect your dedication and hard work.
